Year 10 EOTC Community Service Summary

Students will complete one day of community service assisting local residents and businesses.

Students will be organised into small teams and given a range of different jobs from house washing to gardening, to assisting with community groups.

This will usually occur within walking distance of Tawa College for all Year 10 students. This day has the key focus of citizenship and has been a great success in previous years.

Requirement for the Activity

If students do not have the necessary equipment, they will be unable to participate in this trip. A spare change of clothes and a packed lunch are required

If you have any problems getting these items on the return form, please let us know and we will try our best to help. Students will be expected to follow the school's policies on all trips.

On the day of the event, students must dress in mufti clothes. It is recommended that you wear appropriate walking or athletic shoes, a raincoat, sunscreen, and warm clothing.

Community Service Background

Community service is unpaid work performed by a person or group of people for the benefit and betterment of their community without any form of compensation.

Community service can be distinct from volunteering, since it is not always performed on a voluntary basis and may be compulsory per situation.

Community service also allows those participating to reflect on the difference they are making in society. Some participants of a community service project may find themselves gaining a greater understanding of their roles in the community, as well as the impact of their contributions towards those in need of service. Because community service outlets vary, those who serve are exposed to many different kinds of people, environments, and situations.
